Touch table specifications

Different machines for software development and deployment are being build and used at different locations:

University of Manchester - ICAM node

Alienware X51 R2 Standard Base: Windows 8.1. 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600Mhz, AMD Radeon R9 270 with 2GB GDDR5. 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4790 processor (4-cores 8MB cache, up to 4.0GHz w/Intel Turbo Boost) 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s

This version taken to the Cheltenham Science Festival and RAL RCaH open days.

1. In conferences and festivals we have used the system without a kiosk box so just a touch screen from Dell on the table with a hidden small PC.

a. Small PC means all the items can be carried on a large backpack and box for the screen.


We also took it to the EMiT conference in 2015


2. For cheapness and not worrying about components and weight; we do suggest a cheap small PC with a good graphics card. If using Drishti-Prayog software can:

a. specify the quality level that will be transferred to the card so really high spec cards are not necessary. Increases responsiveness to controls as well (as long as not loosing quality of visuals).

b. can ignore the number of cores and RAM memory as this is not a major issue.

3. Idea of kiosk is so less items are exposed for small fingers; and importantly can be left in a foyer/reception area on its own without intervention. New version installed within an installed Kiosk taken to ToScA and new open days for SEAES at Manchester.

Manchester Museum - ICAL building node

To Do - Indiustrial links with HIP projects.

Manchester 2016 Festivals

Includes two new nodes: with, "Iiyama T2735MSC 27-inch Multi-touch 16:9 Edge-to-Edge Glass Tilt TFT monitor" with a recommended: Alienware machine


Workshop at ToScA symposiun: how to do slide shows and videos that looped (as well as of course full 3D interactive volume vis) in the Prayog system that is open source. For volume visualisation key with the ICAL node system and Cheltenham node was setting the quality that is transferred to the graphics card and still looked fab.
