A TSB project (37972-241197) with a visualisation component has been approved within the Towards Zero Prototyping programme.

Titled 'In silico evaluation of manufacturing concepts for non-Newtonian products' this collaborates with Prof Rob Prosser (University of Manchester), Drs Charles Moulinec and Rob Allan (STFC/SCD), Prof Adam Kowalski (Unilever) and CDDMtec to integrate computer CFD simulation, on the Hartee systems, with tomographic 3D image capture; and add the human-in-the-loop. This two year project started in 2015.

Dates etc:

12/8/2015: CDDMTec paperwork being considered for six month extension of project to agree on contracts. A 5 month suspension for the project has been submitted to InnovateUK? and no costs in September are eligible as the project is on hold.

Work Package 5: High Performance Computing & Visualisation

Description of work

D5.1 and D5.3 The key stage of the WP for this project is to optimise the various versions of the UoM? non-Newtonian CFD code to run on the STFC computational facilities. A secure data flow mechanism will be created to provide remote submission and monitoring to simplify the batch processing and aid in the initial analysis of the simulations. This is putting the human in the computational loop.

D5.2 A second role carried out by DL is in compositing the computational reconstructed simulation with the experimental Electrical Resistance Tomography results allowing feature scale comparison to occur. It is proposed that this will aid in the development of improvements within the complete design cycle.

Specialist High Performance visualisation machines are indirectly linked to the simulation data storage devices and will allow side-by-side comparisons with the simulations to occur as soon as possible: resulting in D5.3.

Equipment and Facilities

50% of the resources are there to fund the use of Hartree computation and visualisation facilities. This is available and will be managed by the DL team. There are periods of maintenance etc., which will be managed to gain efficient use of the system.

24 April 2014 Our TSB Project with a visualisation component has been approved within the Towards Zero Prototyping programme. The introduction by Paul Tuffs within the New Projects Workshop session to go through the bureaucratic reporting and costing system was going so well until he showed the reporting information pathway graph. Should be a good project and see outcomes here in the next two years.
