This history of the group is as follows:

  1. Rob Allan joined Daresbury Laboratory in January 1985 as an RA with the CCP6 project, see
  2. Rob was made a permanent staff member in 1987 to develop middleware for parallel and high-performance computing and went on to lead the HPC Group which was involved in the UK High Performance Computing Initiative. This group is now supporting HPCx, the UK's national academic supercomputing service
  3. Rob was a founding member of the CCLRC e-Science Centre in 2001 and helped with the development of the Grid Starter Kit and foundataion of the Grid Support Centre. His new group was named the Grid Technology Group.
  4. With the re-structuring of the e-Science Cente in 2006 the group is now formally (and confusingly) known as the Frameworks Group. See

We have therefore adopted the title GridTech for this site.
